Heroes Battlegrounds uses the familiar Roblox battleground combat structure: basic attacks start most combos, abilities extend or finish them, blocks stop predictable frontal pressure, and dashes control spacing. Beginners improve fastest by learning movement and simple guaranteed strings before attempting long combos.

1

Learn Your Basic Controls

Use M1 for normal attacks, the number keys for character abilities, F to block, Q to dash, and Space to jump. Your character's awakening or ultimate becomes available after building enough meter through combat.

  • Practice the M1 attack rhythm before using abilities.
  • Keep at least one movement option available when approaching an opponent.
  • Do not spend every ability at the start of a fight.
2

Start With M1 Combos

Basic M1 attacks are the safest way to begin learning combos. Land your opening hit, continue the basic attack string, then connect a compatible ability before the opponent can recover.

  • Confirm that your first M1 connects before committing abilities.
  • Turn toward the opponent during the combo so later attacks stay aligned.
  • Save high-damage skills for confirmed hits instead of throwing them randomly.
3

Use Dashes for Positioning

Dashing is used to engage, escape, reposition around blocks, and recover from certain knockback situations. Good dash management is one of the biggest differences between new and experienced players.

  • Avoid repeatedly dashing straight toward a blocking opponent.
  • Side dashes can help you move around frontal defense.
  • Do not waste your recovery movement when the opponent is preparing another attack.
4

Understand Blocking

Blocking stops many frontal attacks but does not make you completely safe. Opponents can reposition, attack from another angle, or use tools designed to punish defensive play.

  • Block when you expect an attack rather than holding block constantly.
  • Watch the opponent's movement while defending.
  • Release block when you have a safe opportunity to counterattack.
5

Practice Downslams and Knockdowns

Air attacks and downslams are useful for ending or extending basic strings while forcing the opponent into a knockdown state. They also help control where the fight continues.

  • Practice the jump timing after your grounded M1 sequence.
  • Use knockdowns to reset your position or prepare another ability.
  • Do not chase every knockdown if your important skills are still on cooldown.
6

Manage Your Awakening

Combat builds an awakening or ultimate meter that temporarily gives your character access to much stronger attacks. Activate it when you can immediately pressure an opponent instead of wasting its limited duration.

  • Avoid awakening when every nearby opponent can simply run away.
  • Learn your awakened abilities before relying on them in serious fights.
  • Use the transformation to swing difficult fights or secure multiple eliminations.
7

Pick One Character First

Choose one fighter and learn its normal abilities, range, cooldown rhythm, and simple combos before constantly switching characters.

  • Green Hero is built around straightforward close-range pressure and smash attacks.
  • Explosive Hero rewards movement and aggressive combo pressure.
  • Half Hot Half Cold is useful for players who prefer controlling space before committing.

Choosing a main is easier when you understand how each character approaches neutral combat and converts openings into damage. Use these summaries to find a fighter that matches your preferred range, movement style, and combo difficulty.

Green Hero

Balanced Rushdown

Explosive Hero

Mobile Rushdown

Weaknesses

Best for: Aggressive players who enjoy fast movement

Half Hot Half Cold

Control Hybrid

Combines ice control and fire offense to restrict movement and punish opponents from different ranges.

Strengths

  • Strong space control
  • Flexible attack ranges
  • Good combo setup potential

Weaknesses

  • Ability timing matters heavily
  • Poor spacing can waste major control tools

Best for: Players who prefer controlling the pace of a fight

  • Excellent mobility
  • Strong chase potential
  • Good repositioning

Weaknesses

  • Requires accurate movement

Best for: Players who value speed and constant movement

Hero Slayer

Melee Pressure

A close-range fighter focused on aggressive weapon-based pressure, precise punishes, and sustained melee combat.

Strengths

  • Strong melee pressure
  • Good combo potential
  • Effective against careless approaches

  • Requires good timing to maximize pressure

Symbol of Peace

Relies on overwhelming physical power, large-impact attacks, and straightforward close-range punishment.

Strengths

  • Excellent raw power
  • Strong punishment
  • Easy-to-understand offensive game plan

Weaknesses

  • Less flexible than highly mobile characters
  • Large attacks become punishable when used carelessly

Best for: Players who prefer heavy hits and straightforward pressure

Heroes Battlegrounds combat rewards players who connect basic attacks into abilities while managing knockback, ragdoll, positioning, and cooldowns. These fundamentals apply across the roster and provide the base for stronger character-specific combos.

Any Character

Open with basic M1 attacks at close range.Keep the opponent inside your attack range instead of immediately knocking them away.Use a downslam or another reliable ender when the basic string reaches its finishing hit.Follow with an ability that can connect against the opponent's landing or recovery.

This is the safest structure for learning timing before adding character-specific combo extenders.

Any Character

Use a forward or side dash to close distance.Confirm that the dash places you within M1 range.Start the basic attack string.Finish with an ability or downslam depending on the opponent's position.

Do not throw abilities from maximum range when a dash can first confirm the opening.

Green Hero

Close distance before committing to the combo.Use M1 attacks to establish the first hit confirm.Chain a close-range ability while the opponent is still controlled.Reposition with movement before using another available attack.Save a strong knockback option for the end of the string.

Green Hero benefits from staying close enough to maintain pressure instead of creating unnecessary distance.

Explosive Hero

Approach using movement rather than opening with your strongest ability.Confirm with M1 attacks.Use an explosive ability as the first extension.Follow the opponent's movement and reconnect at close range.Use another burst attack as the finisher once further extensions are unavailable.

Explosive Hero's mobility makes it easier to maintain pressure after displacement.

Half Hot Half Cold

Force the opponent into a predictable position.Confirm the opening with basic attacks or a safe control ability.Use the character's area-control tools to restrict escape options.Continue with M1 pressure when close enough.Finish with a high-impact ability rather than wasting multiple cooldowns at once.

The character is strongest when abilities are used to control where the opponent can move.

Any Character

Learn which moves cause heavy knockback or ragdoll.Place combo extenders before those finishing attacks.Use movement to stay aligned with the opponent between hits.Track cooldowns so an unavailable move does not break the route.End the combo once further attacks are no longer guaranteed instead of giving the opponent a free punish.

Optimized routes depend on the selected character, positioning, cooldowns, and current moveset.

Mastery is character-focused progression rather than a replacement for basic combat fundamentals. Players get the most value by first learning a fighter's normal moves, combo routes, movement, and ultimate before concentrating on its mastered version.

How Mastery Works

Character-Specific Progression

Mastery progression is attached to eligible characters. Playing and learning the character is therefore more useful than spreading progression across fighters you rarely use.

Main Reward

Mastered Movesets

Supported characters can receive mastered combat options that expand or alter how their normal kit is played. These additions matter most once the base moveset and its combo timing are already familiar.

Moveset

Ability Changes

Mastery content can introduce additional abilities, upgraded attacks, altered move behavior, or other character-specific combat changes rather than functioning as a purely cosmetic progression system.

Preparation

Combo Practice

Before focusing heavily on mastery, learn the character's M1 confirms, ability order, knockback moves, combo extenders, and reliable finishers. Mastered tools are much easier to use when those fundamentals are already automatic.

Priority

Main Character First

The best first mastery target is normally the fighter you already use consistently. Character-specific progression provides more immediate value when you already understand that fighter's matchups and cooldowns.

Progression

Mastery After Fundamentals

New players should prioritize movement, blocking, dashing, M1 timing, base abilities, and awakening usage before treating mastery as their main progression goal.

An awakening is most effective when enough time remains to use multiple upgraded attacks and the opponent cannot simply disengage. Players should avoid activating it too far away from the fight or wasting several powerful moves on an opponent who is already escaping.

CharacterAwakening StyleBest UseCounterplay
Green HeroClose-range pressure and mobilityActivate while close enough to immediately pressure the target and chain stronger attacks.Create distance, avoid predictable approaches, and do not trade directly into high-damage attacks.
Explosive HeroBurst damage and aggressive mobilityUse mobility to remain attached to the opponent before committing major awakening attacks.Force attacks to miss, keep changing direction, and punish important cooldowns after they are spent.
Half Hot Half ColdArea control and ranged pressureControl the opponent's movement first so powerful attacks are harder to escape.Avoid remaining in predictable lanes and move out of controlled areas before counterattacking.
Hero SlayerClose-range offense and punish pressureUse the awakening when already positioned to force close combat rather than activating from long range.Respect close-range pressure and disengage when a direct trade favors the awakened player.
Symbol of PeaceHeavy impact and close-range powerPressure opponents into situations where high-impact attacks cannot be easily avoided.Maintain spacing and punish missed heavy attacks instead of contesting them head-on.
Universal Awakening StrategyMeter and cooldown managementActivate when a real fight is already happening and enough targets or pressure opportunities are available.Disengage, waste the awakening user's time, and re-enter once important ultimate abilities have been used.
